Malena

Created during the period of lockdown in 2020, Malena is a series situated within the intimate space of the home, where the everyday becomes a symbolic territory. The figure of the girl —the artist’s daughter— appears immersed in a domestic environment that, far from neutral, unfolds as a stage for exploration, stillness, and transformation.

Rendered in black and white, the images suspend time through simple gestures: riding a bicycle, lying on the grass, observing animals, climbing, eating. Yet these actions shift toward a more ambiguous dimension, where childhood is not portrayed as an idealized innocence, but as a state of perception that is open, vulnerable, and in transition.

Confinement reshapes the world: the garden becomes a landscape, everyday objects acquire density, and the body relates to its surroundings through an almost introspective proximity. The presence of animals, organic matter, and improvised elements constructs an atmosphere where the domestic borders on the oneiric.

In Malena, the camera does not merely document a personal experience, but proposes a reflection on suspended time, shared intimacy, and the silent transformation of human bonds. The series thus emerges as a sensitive record of a historical moment experienced through the private sphere, where childhood appears as a space of resistance, imagination, and contemplation.
